"Our main source of inspiration is the essence of nature and the multiple images and forms which represent universal symbols of life. In our public art we want to facilitate the viewers discovery of their own interconnectedness with nature in their region by the experience of art made by natural materials such as stone.
"We choose three elements from the nature of California as a basis for our design: 1) the redwood seedpod representing the earth/land and the promise of birth, 2) the spiral seashell as a 'seed' from the ocean, representing growth and continuity, and 3) waves upon the water representing the ocean/water as a source of life.
