The art installation is animated by an enlarged replication of a chameleon. Cast in bronze, it is climbing on the serpentine boulder, patinated to match the stone on which it rests. On the east wall there is another similarly sized chameleon, cast in Lucite and climbing vertically near the top of the window expanse. Opposite the stone paneled west wall is a third chameleon, cast in bronze and patinated to resemble the travertine on which it climbs.
There is much that can be said of the chameleon. They have complex cultural meanings and great metaphoric potential, reflected in a rich symbolic and mythic history. Implying adaptability, the chameleon has been seen as bipolar, bringing together strengths and weaknesses, positives and negatives.
