Original Artwork by John Okulick, Sculpture, "Every Book Tells a Story", 2003
The wall sculpture for the south lobby wall above the reception desk takes the form of an open book divided into four quardrants with various shapes emerging from its pages. The sculpture reflects the vastness of the State of California through the use of forced perspective. Colors are used that represent the topography of the state: ocean-blue, desert-yellow, mountain-brown, valley-green. The shapes that are used are symbols of the state: technology-the disc, aerospace-the "winged" aluminum frames, science-the ellipse, home-the picket fence, and preservation-the bookmark. The large golden "C", reflects the capital of the Golden State. A keystone shape points to the "C", California being the hub of innovation and resource preservation. The book shapes is a symbol for education, emphasized by the "seeds" of growth and the "bridge."
